Grant insisted that his meat be extremely well done (charred) because he didn't like his meat bloody.
 
It's not too often Grant's culinary skills get pointed out, but he would have made a mighty good chef himself. Like the article says, he had to have his taste buds re-educated from army grub to fine dining. :laugh: I know where he's coming from! I grew up on po' folk food and, fortunately, had my husband to bring my tastes a little more upscale. Grant brought his army cook with him to the White House and finally had to see hardtack and salt pork wasn't really the stuff of state dinners! :playfull:
