@Historycollector61 , Let me suggest that you first invest in a couple of reference books. It seems that edged weapons are your interest, and there are good reference books on swords and bayonets out there that will help you considerably. For a modest investment, you will have a wealth of information at your disposal, and will probably enjoy reading them as well.
I very much realize what it's like when you have limited funds, and would rather spend it on actual historical items instead of books. But good reference books will SAVE you money as you proceed with your collecting. You don't want to spend hundreds of your hard-saved dollars on something that turns out to be a sham. We've probably all done that early in our collecting life and regretted it.
If you can, try to attend a Civil War show in Mississippi one Saturday. I think there are a couple in the state during the year. They are a lot of fun and you will learn much in the process. If you can connect with a nearby collector, it will enhance your enjoyment of a fascinating hobby.
Also, a side-note, you will probably be better off posting something like this on the "Edged Weapons" forum to be seen by more people who can offer opinions.
