Gettysburg 2018

Gettysburg is now approaching. Who from the forum is planning to participate/attend?

1st Ohio Statehouse Battery A will be bringing 2 original cannon from the Ohio Statehouse grounds. I am extending an open invitation to come over for a visit and see our 2 Ohio National Guard veterans from the war. While I know which ones we are planning to take ( each one has it's own unique history). I won't be 100% certain until later, due to carriages in need of repair, we may need to swap some parts/tubes ( we have already "lost" one for use due to it being placed on a aluminum display carriage). we are planning to bring a 12-pdr and 6-pdr. note: we will most likely be moving out of camp about 1 to 1 1/2 hours pre-battle due to the logistics of moving and placing the guns ( and typically moving them again.. I wish those who decide gun placement would come out with us just once to see what is really involved - not as easy as infantry just forming up and marching to a new location)

if you are confederate, just drop your jacket and come over or carry a flag of truce.... we won't capture you, I promise :D
Gosh I pray someday I'll make it there...just been doing local NE Ohio ones. I'm sure @Equestriangirl93 will do a wonderful job representing us spies...even though she's a Yankee! :bounce:

With most of us having various schedules during the day ( for instance, with artillery we typically start at least an hour before the battle if not more placing the guns), I was looking at the schedule and realized there should be 2 good times/locations where we could meet and all of us would most likely be free:

Fri. 6th, 7:30 at the tent 1 concert
Sat 7th 8:00 at the camp dance

any thoughts?

I'll be there for sure taking in some 2nd SC band. I am going to try and find you during the day, I'd like to check out your guns. I'll be arriving Wednesday morning so we can get some sightseeing in.

Same here - we are leaving early on Wed. (about a 5 1/2 hour drive for us) so we can get camp set up and then do some sightseeing before things get busy

I'll try to drop by and say hello. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the 2nd South Carolina live.

The 6th Ohio Cavalry will be there, and my eldest son is hoping to be there with them. He, however, has been ill and had surgery this spring, so his participation is still a bit "iffy."

My Illinois unit is mustering in with Western Reserve this year, with one original Napoleon, and for the whole event. I'll drift over to the Statehouse contingent and check it out.

Just a heads up. We just recieved word from artillery command that ticks are bad this year at the site. We were told to bring spray and to make sure to use it around pant legs etc.

What Unit?

We won't know which Western Reserve battery our contingent will be assigned to until we get there next week, but I'm not changin' out the "G" and "2" brass on my kepi. Our gun has a period inscription; either "Molly" or "Mary" depending on which one unloads first from the bus, if you'd like to check it out.

I'm wondering how they could be much worse that what I experienced last summer. Every day that I walked in the fields of the battlefield, I would find more than a dozen ticks crawling on me. Traditional repellent didn't seem to do much good until I started using permethrin based spray. Now not a single tick!
