Gettysburg 2018

Gettysburg is now approaching. Who from the forum is planning to participate/attend?

1st Ohio Statehouse Battery A will be bringing 2 original cannon from the Ohio Statehouse grounds. I am extending an open invitation to come over for a visit and see our 2 Ohio National Guard veterans from the war. While I know which ones we are planning to take ( each one has it's own unique history). I won't be 100% certain until later, due to carriages in need of repair, we may need to swap some parts/tubes ( we have already "lost" one for use due to it being placed on a aluminum display carriage). we are planning to bring a 12-pdr and 6-pdr. note: we will most likely be moving out of camp about 1 to 1 1/2 hours pre-battle due to the logistics of moving and placing the guns ( and typically moving them again.. I wish those who decide gun placement would come out with us just once to see what is really involved - not as easy as infantry just forming up and marching to a new location)

if you are confederate, just drop your jacket and come over or carry a flag of truce.... we won't capture you, I promise

Will do, I know a few of us members will be there, looking forward to it, I sure hope to find at least a few of them in the crowd. Maybe we could all touch base when we get there and have a quick rendezvous somewhere.

Sounds like a good idea - of course, we all wont' know our schedules until we get there.. and as usual, that's subject to change

we will have a few "closet" confederates in camp - we have a few members that also reenact with the 5th Kentucky out of northern Ohio

We could post something on here from our phones when we get there. Looks like the battles are scheduled in the morning and late in the afternoons the first couple days. Maybe we could do a lunch meet at the food vendors one day. Hopefully some of the other members going will see this and maybe we could make something like that happen. I'm going to get there early, planning on arriving as soon as sign in opens on the 4th. I'm bringing a couple guys from our company here in Fla. that have never been there before and I'd like to take them for a tour of the sights before the event gets going.

an update (not related to meeting up at Gettysburg):

1st Ohio State House light Artillery Battery A will be joining the 2nd Illinois Light Artillery Battery G to create a 6 gun battery of all original cannon for Gettysburg. We had this planned for Chicamauga until that event was canceled. (pending completion of emergency repairs to our carriages by the State House carpenter)

Will be arriving there on the 3rd and will be driving cross country with my Bigfoot camper. Staying @ Gettysburg campground.
