Does anyone happen to know what became of the George Wray collection? Last I read it was at the Atlanta History Center but I was there about a year ago and didn't see it, in fact there entire "collection" they did have that was shown was pathetic.

Something to understand about museums and other places of exhibition is that there are a number of things that can happen to collections and some of them aren't very good: they can stay on display, they can be DE accessed (sold) as being surplus to current needs, they can go into storage for future display or they can just be returned to the owners. All of this depends on under what conditions they were sent to the museum in the first place. Regardless, sometimes it can be a real crapshoot and many collectors cringe at the thought of their collections going to a museum.

All I know about it is George Wray dies and the History Center suppossedly got the collection and was displaying it but now they are not. I get everything you said but still just wondering what happaened to the colleciton? My gut feeling is, the History Center got all woke and took down the Confederate items. Last time I was there most of the display was Union stuff. Everything else including the cyclorama had apology signs even around the Texas locomotive.

Good luck on getting a straight answer and remember, Atlanta is the heart of the new South.

I live outside of Atlanta believe me, you ain't tellin' me nothing I don't already know. Born and raised here in Fayetteville about an hour south of Atlanta. Edited I did try calling the museum just to see what they would say, but so far, not answering the phone.

In April the museum announced The "NEW" Atlanta History Center. The Wray collection as well as the DeBose collection are in storage as they said they are planning a remod of both which means they will still be in the basement years from now.

I looked at that document, it is exactly what I was expecting to see.

"Apology Signs"??!! Seriously, for what? It's a Museum you should know what your going to see before going in there. You can't make this %&#@ up. This nonsense is getting out of control. I apologize for this post if you feel it warrants an apologize because your offended by my offensive to the apology which I feel is offensive. Wait what I say? I've offended myself so I apologize to myself.

On every exhibit there are signs bringing up slavery and how wrong and how it shouldn't have happened and how we all need to discuss while we are there the impact slavery and the wrongs of the era.. it was quite nauseating.

Its about the same issue even though the Greensboro Historical Museum says its on rotation, we all know the real deal.

So, maybe I shouldn't donate my collection to some worthy institution then? :nah disagree:

Consider carefully all plans for your collection after you shuffle off.

It doesn't surprise us that our children and grandchildren have no real interest is what we collect; they may politely show some interest, but they don't want our beautiful dining room table with four leaves, ten chairs, a buffet and a china cabinet - and they often don't want our collections, either

Well, museums can be the same - show polite interest, but not able or willing to display our collection. A child or grandchild who liked to sit with you and listen to you read some story book, that child will grow and change, and their interests will have moved on past "Green Eggs and Ham." Well, a museum which DOES have REAL interest today will change over the years, too.

Consider carefully.

Any signs saying what the British did to my Irish Ancestors was wrong and shouldn't of happened? Part of my interest in the CW was from my Grandfather. After he died I learned he fought with the IRA in the Irish Civil War. He had to leave Ireland or be imprisoned, executed, or exiled and could not get his job back. Shame he was a school teacher too. So an Uncle paid his way to America. He was always reading books on the ACW mostly Union and its Leaders. That's when I figured it out, he had admiration for the Union that won their CW but he lost his.

This particular museum is about the history of Atlanta with sections devoted to the Atlanta part of the Civil War. Can't speak for what you are talking about.
I'm not saying whether anything was right or wrong. I am just saying describe what the artifacts are and leave it at that. If someone wants to research it further and develop an opinion, have at it.

This is all mind boggling to me. I'm offended and going to Cancel myself on 3....1..2..3
