Very convincing! Especially the colour of his hair. Many think he was lighter blonde, but we saw a picture of a strand of his hair here sometime ago and it was exactly that colour (I can remember that because to my surprise it's the same colour as mine ... I also had thought his hair had been more "yellow"). And I never knew he had freckles!
Congrats, and you are right, he was a born topmodel!

Thank you for all the compliments and the kind words, I appreciate them. :)

I was using this particular preserved lock of his hair as a reference!

Man, that is so insanely awesome on so many levels. Yes, I'd also love to hear about your Photoshop processes.
Z,

Sometime, would you post a description of the process you use to accomplish the very good work that you do? I think the rest of us would appreciate that.

Thanks.

Eric

I am currently working in cooperation with Wacom Europe to create a very in-depth tutorial for my work. :)

For now, the best I can offer is the tutorial I have pinned at the top in the Colorized Period Photographs, although it's nearing 2 years of age now.

Beautiful!! I might suggest a color change on the Custer Medal. "Tuebor - I will defend." On the Michigan state seal.

...The Custer medal is another among these, financed entirely by George Armstrong Custer. About mid-1864 Custer sent a design for the Custer Badge to Tiffany & Co. with instructions that these badges be crafted for individuals in the Michigan Brigade upon his specific authorization. ...

I think her's was unique. I also think his was unique but I can't find a photo of it. One source there is no known sample of it. Maybe some blue is needed on his?

His wife's description of his uniform he wore on the day of the Grand Review, May 23, 1865.

…The wide felt hat that was captured from a Confederate officer. The shirt of blue flannel was purchased from a Government gun boat in the Potomac river. The necktie was scarlet. General Custer began to wear the red tie when he was a Brigadier General… The badge on the tie was that of the Michigan brigade with the motto of the State and the name of Custer.

Thank you, as always, for your help Mike - I couldn't for the life of me find that bloody medal!
