I am a descendant of General Gregg. I have read he had a feud. I walk past this family coat of arms everyday. Thoughts and facts are welcome. Deo Vindice.

Don't know if it's the same work or not. There is a 'Like New' hardcopy of the work (326 pages) currently listed for sale on ebay for $25 plus $27.27 shipping.

I believe you mentioned that the general had a brother who was in the Hampton Legion, and who wrote him a letter. I'd like to find out more about the brother and about other letters he might have written.

Originally the Hampton Legion was divided into three different branches of the service. There was artillery, there was infantry, and there was Cavalry.

In 1862 the Legion was broken up and assigned to the proper services. The cavalry became the second South Carolina cavalry,. The infantry became the Hampton legion infantry. They are j legion artillery became an artillery battery.

In early 1864 the infantry returned from East Tennessee, and was given horses, so they became mounted infantry.

I'm very interested in the experiences of that Hampton Legion mounted infantry unit.
