This recipe from "Old Time Recipes To Enjoy", The Kentucky Explorer". It is old Christmas time recipe.

Fruit Snowballs

Cream one fourth cup butter with one half cup of sugar. Add one fourth cup milk, one cup flour, one teaspoon of baking powder, and three stiffly beaten egg whites. Mix and divide into small greased moulds, cover with greased papers and steam for 35 minutes. Turn out, sprinkle with powdered sugar, garnish with candied cherries and pineapple and serve with custard sauce made with egg yolks.
 
It type of custard dish. I guess kind of like meringue topping.

Another recipe is

Snow Pudding with Custard

Mix two tablespoons arrowroot with three tablespoons of cold milk. Boil one cup of milk and pour it onto mixed arrowroot, pour back into pan and boil gently for eight minutes,stirring all the time, then allow to cool. Stir in yolks of two eggs, two tablespoons butter, one fourth teaspoon of salt, three tablespoons of sugar, pour into greased pudding dish; beat whites of eggs to a stiff froth and mix lightly in. Dust nutmeg over the top and bake in moderate oven 10 minutes. Serve quickly with custard.
