Just got back from a two week vacation. So better late than never. How about pictures of some of your favorite CW artifacts. This is one of Stonewall Jackson's gloves.
Can you read the first signature?Found this in Tennessee
In theory, all these pieces could possibly represent one exploded canister shell? Grouped together as you show, it is highly impressive.View attachment 326573
The first artillery artifacts I ever found, in Jeffersonton Virginia, this past February.
These were pretty scattered. The lead case shot came out of a Bormann shell, while the iron case shot came out of a Hotchkiss shell. The iron shot was a part of a groundburst shell. The fragments are a mixture of Hotchkiss pieces, and Bormann pieces. In theory, all these pieces could possibly represent one exploded canister shell? Lubliner.
It would be interesting if that was put together and it all was actually one shell.View attachment 326573

I found a groundburst shell, but a previous relic hunter took all the big pieces, and left me with the small ones. In a way, I can't blame him, but it would have been nice.It would be interesting if that was put together and it all was actually one shell.
I do my best to make sure every piece of known information about something is recorded, then I try and find the unknown. Currently, I'm trying to find out which battery fired those shells.Great job Ethan S. in identifying the artifacts. Love the relics and photos here. Thank you .
