Recently I discovered my 3rd Great Grandfather was a 2LT in E Co, 27th Reg, NC Infantry. Can anyone give me guidance into what his uniform would of been? More details the better.

I can't, but we've got lots of uniform experts here who can. Until they chime in, I'll keep your thread in plain sight by wishing you a hearty welcome.

Welcome!

I have ancestors from the 23rd, 34th, and 44th NC.

There were many evolutions of the Confederate uniform throughout the war. Depending on when he joined up and whether or not he started out as an enlisted man, your ancestor may have gone through several different ones.

Here's a site that, I believe, can provide you with some idea of what he may have been wearing through the years. Click the "next impression" button to see how the uniform changed for NC troops:

Hope this helps!

Welcome from South Florida and the Reenactors Forum. Commissioned officers had to supply their own uniforms so there was quite a bit of variation but they typically but not always preferred frock coats. Here's a couple of examples of typical CS Lieutenant's frock coats. One bar on the collar is 2nd Lt, two bars 1st Lt. and 3 bars would be captain.

So I see an Edward Moore 2nd Lt and an Amos Hines 2nd Lt, my records only show these two, what was your ancestors name? Co E was badly chewed up at Sharpsburg, MD.

Thank y'all for Welcome. Maybe I should of started with an intro. Former Army SGT, worked my way up the ranks from a Security "Guard" to Chief of Security in Central California. Got the knock on the door then a folded flag for our Son. Relocated just outside of Ft Campbell. (And it!) And now need a project... just joined SCV.

PLEASE forgive me. I crossed relatives. I want to rep my 3rd Great Uncle: 2LT Joseph McGaha, 10th Ala Cav.

This may give you some insight. One thing is do you want to rep him before or after a HARD campaign.
