Greetings,

I have returned from my first WCWA event. Twasnt even a full weekend, but I'll have to say, as much as I need to work on stuff, I had a time of a lifetime.

(Me at center, front rank.. Made a wonderful mistake of being tall and ccoudn't manage my loaned cartridge box quite well)
[Reforming after Second Battle]

This event was one that I believe has got me off into the hobby four fold. Falling in with my company was great, and meeting our sister company only made it better.
(My company being 20th Maine, Co. F, sister company being Co. D, 2nd USSS)
Great feedback and advice for all questions and concerns I had. An absolute blast in camp, and on the feild.

I have discovered that drill is a bit hard to get down first time one attends. But, maybe line formation is easier than skirmishing formations. I also learned that loaner gear is a blessing (even if I still have a hard time with that bayonet).

As far as on the feild, it was also a blast. And I'll have to say, taking a hit might be my favorite part of the battle (not the sunburn but that's okay).

Also, great meme Content!

(the face plant did not in fact lead to a nose bleed thank the Lord.)

The only downside was the lack of other union troops. We had a few Zouaves, and a couple artillery guns, but we were still almost outnumbered 2-1.

I'll end with this...

Definitely going back soon.

I've always felt the reenactment bug. I would like to go do a hike wearing period kit. How were your feet after?
Not a single blister. I had worn my brogans a lot before this event, so they were decently broken in...
That, and I spent a lot of time on the ground playing chess against myself.

I will say, my feet felt better while marching than standing still.

Pretty nice seeing Co. D out there. Have been watching a lot of their videos on YouTube
Great group of folks. 1st Sgt. Koepp was giving me ideas galore for uniform stuffs, extra things to carry, and how to turn my sutler row sack into a good vest.
Captain Whitehall is about the funniest guy I met there, and I mean in all the right ways.

Even more photos from the event.

Funny story, the Cavalry managed to get in our way during a retreat. We had rebs right behind us, and they just wouldn't move. With enough First Sargeant yelling, they eventually moves.

Congratulations! You look good. The facial hair of that officer is outstanding! Where was this event? Nice green grass to take casualty on. Being in Arizona I envy you. Here we have rocks and cactus and a high chance of getting back up with a Gila Monster in tow.
Good luck and God Bless!
Cheers!

Thanks. I am not up on events around the country. I faded away from reenactments around 2012 or so. I am recently....shall I say?...um...in the chips and can afford two travel so I ask where events are held. I've never been to an event out of CA,AZ,and NM. Maybe I'll get that under my belt before I kick off.
Thanks again for the update and photos. I liked your meme also.
Cheers!
