I know it was not a CW site but the heavy atmosphere I experienced at the Alamo was profound. Little Round Top and Valley Forge were like that also

Shiloh had over 3,000 dead from voth sides and I am sure that those who are more preceptive than me might well had a phenomena experience but as a Christian I believe all souls leave earth and thus I am sure there are no spirits of the deceased left on earth. Just my thougts not those of others nor this web site

I'm more concerned about ticks, chiggers and snakes when I'm at Shiloh than I am about haints.

My apologies. I promised abstinence but @bamaman and @Kathy the history sleuth make it irresistible. The first and only time I visited The Alamo, knowing full well the history, there was an almost overwhelming sense of this "heavy atmosphere" as I approached the front doors. I would equate it to walking into a large cooler at the grocery but with no temperature change. Certainly this can be attributed to knowing its history. This differs quite dramatically from my visual/auditory experience at Grand Canyon. Skepticism and common sense tells me this has more to do with me than anything else but as @NH Civil War Gal said…it does make one wonder.

I have been on Shiloh park many nights and the only scare I got was from some hogs coming thru the woods. I did see a strange light on night but it was the park ranger driving thru with a spot light.

I visted the Alamo and was surprised at how little of the original battlefield remained just as I was at Franklin and Gettysburg. Having been spoiled by Shiloh's relatively pristine condition, I had to understand that humans need to live and battlegounds fall to urban sprowl!

Thank you. You're very kind. Next November may provide an opportunity to return to Shiloh. I would look forward to meeting a true steward of its history.

Meeting who? I am just an old retiree who lives fairly close to a beautifully cared for Civil War Battlefield. I have no expertise except time as I have been able to visit Shiloh since September of 1960. I have loved doing research, reading and studying this treasured field as it is nearly pristine. I will be glad to travel the field and attempt to discover where and what you wish to see.

I have had a experience at Shiloh. I was walking down the sunken road never the Hornets nest and I heard in the field across from it horses galloping and I turned around an nothing was there. Really made me wonder.

Our farm is on hollow ground (Spotsylvania) and my wife and I have had MANY encounters with soldiers and horses.
Our first encounter was shortly after we moved here, we were seeing a horse in the pasture with our other horses. Neither of us mentioned to one another until several months and multiple sightings had passed. We were out running errands one day and I said "you ever see anything strange at the farm?". She responded immediately "a horse." I said "a chestnut?". She said "yes".
Then we talked about our experience seeing it. I ve also seen a black one.
Since then we've both seen Confederate soldiers- hers was in butternut, both of mine in grey but with different hats.
I was alone in the barn one day and heard hoof steps behind me on the concrete floor. I immediately thought one of our horses had gotten out of the paddock- I turned to see nothing but an empty isle. I then went to the paddock and all three horses were quietly grazing and the gate shut.
We've also had a very unexplained incidents with the thermostat in the house with setting changes while we were not home (we're the only ones living in the house) and things suddenly falling off the shelves while we're in the room.
I think we're "relatively sane" !

What did it for me at Shiloh was walking along the same route as Major Powell's patrol on the morning of 4/6. I walked the route in the middle of the morning. I can't imagine what this would have been like in the predawn hours knowing there is someone out there that could shoot you.

Just got back from Shiloh, and I've never seen so many ticks!

Go to the drug store and ask for sulphur. Sometimes you have to order it from the pharmacy. Put some around your neck, waist, and in your shoes. Won't be bothered with ticks. Downside is you'll smell like sulphur.

I suppose I am not attuned to the spirits as I have not had any manifestations in the 63 years I have been visiting Shiloh National Military Park. I have read of folks experiences of encountering or seeing phenomena on Civil War battlefields but alas not me.

James N and I explored may battlefields over the years - and I was more open to the possibility of "haints" than he was. But no ... we never experienced anything and we figured we were about as "psychic" as a couple of doorknobs.
