Got myself this little gem at auction recently. I am finding very little info about them, I understand it is a Dutch model 1854 carbine, rifled, chambered for .66 caliber. It has that delightfully distinctive Dutch Ring Hammer. The rifling suggests it was intended to use Minie type balls. It is very similar to the Austrian Muster 1851 Karabiner, even shares the same sling assembly. Any record of these being used in the civil war?

Great looking piece: thanks for sharing! That ring hammer is a unique feature. Any idea why the maker chose that design? More positive action than the standard hammer? Safer?

Nice looking carbine but I have never seen where these were imported by either side during the CW.

I think the Ring Hmmer was intended for better grip while on horseback. I have only seen this type ring on Dutch carbines and pistols, their muskets dont have it.
