Drewry's Bluff

Here's a picture (Wikipedia) reportedly from 1865 showing the sunken paddle wheelers obstructing the river.View attachment 175392

The sunken vessel in the middle foreground is the CSS Jamestown. The one left background is the "Northampton"... The one on the right barely showing above the water line is likely the remains of the "Curtis Peck" All three of these vessels were sunk in the river in 1862. Remains of the Northampton are still there, not much but a few fragments of the Jamestown.

The CSS Virginia-II, and the CSS Fredericksburg were sank at Drewrys Bluff in 1865, but they both are along the opposite shore line from the bluff. Remains of both are still there deeply buried in the mud silt. Part of the Virginia-II is actually now up under the current Northside river bank. Several other smaller vessels were sunk there too. The CSS Richmond was sunk further down river.

CSS Patrick Henry was not present here at Drewrys Bluff at the time. She was burned at Richmond when the city was evacuated in April 65.
