Does Anyone Recognize This Photo?

Here's a photo I colorized of a Confederate Veteran at the 50th Anniversary Reunion at Gettysburg.

I was hoping somebody would know who this veteran was.

I had a post on this picture about 4 years ago. I have always wondered who he was and what he was writing and it has always fascinated me. I was able to download the picture from loc.gov back then and try to see what the gentleman was writing. I can make out Gettysburg July 2 13 but that's about it.

There are a great many very interesting photos of veterans attending both the 1913 fiftieth, and 1938 seventy-fifth anniversary reunions at Gettysburg. Sadly, only a relative handful of them identify the men by name.

Part of it says "Col. Har_" Colonel Harper perhaps?

This man attended the last Gettysburg reunion.

When enlarging his photo we can plainly see the details of his medal.
He was a Virginian and a member of the artillery.

A surviving example of this type of reunion medal. They apparently gave out ones for each branch.

Great job on the enlargements! I have found several articles run in local newspapers where veterans described their trips to the reunion. Maybe this could be a way to identify this man?
