Hi I'm new to the group and I need new brogans does anyone know where I can get some for 60 dollers or less?
I have an idea trying to get you some help. Reported to a moderator to more this question to a d form. https://civilwartalk.com/forums/sutlers-soldiers-classified-ads.19/Hi I'm new to the group and I need new brogans does anyone know where I can get some for 60 dollers or less?
Ok thank you so much looks like I'm going to need to save up!That´s kind of the price you might pay for a used pair, so advertising that you´re looking for a used pair is one option. (I got a pair of used Jarnigan boots for $50 once so they´re out there. Just be patient.) If you have your heart set on new boots, the lowest priced reputable sutler I´d send you to is C&C Sutlery. Their boots are $80 brand new. Other reenactors will undoubtably chime in shortly with other - and better - options, but they´ll be out of your price range. Their boots are imported. They won´t last forever. But they are in your price range and they´re a good beginner shoe. I´ve worn their footwear. They also have very good customer service.
Now kind of the standard shoe in the hobby is from Fall Creek Sutlery, kind of the Walmart of Civil War sutlers. His boots are $135 but they are sturdy and will last you at least 5 years. I realize that´s outside your budget, but I really think that´s the highest price I´d recommend to you knowing up front what you want to pay.
So, to sum up: I´d say if you have $60 in hand for shoes, advertise for used boots. If you can put a little more with it, order from C&C. If you can wait and scrape together a few more ducats, order from Fall Creek.

Ok thank you so much I was thinking about checking out some thrift stores and stuff to thank you!The Fall Creek shoes are excellent. However, don't be tempted by the Economy Brogans they sell. you won't pay that much more for the regular ones they have. When I returned to reenacting, I had to replace my old brogans. I was short on cash and tried the economy ones. Not worth the small savings. The main issue was that the leather was not as heavy, therefore they don't have much support in the heel area. I found my heels would then to slip off the side of the sole as the leather did not have the support and would allow my heel to move sideways off the sole. The economy brogans were the only thing I have purchased from Fall Creek that I did not like.
However, another possible option would be to check some of the discount shoe stores. I was able to find a pair of shoes that look exactly like brogans but had a rubber sole for around $30. ( Note: I don't wear them in the field. Our battery does a lot of living history at the Ohio State House which has stone floors. Brogans with heel plates make it like walking on ice., so I use the rubber sole shoes there).
im not sure what my size is but in will check it out i have huge feet so it might not be hard to find the right size. thanks. On Facebook there is a reenactors trade blanket and the Campaigner Quality Trade Blanket that is worth a look to see if there's any used available. What's your size? Maybe one of our members may read this and has a pair they'd part with. As far as buying new, as others have already said, you get what you pay for. It will save you money in the long run to buy a quality pair from the get go.
I agree with C&C Sutlery. I have owned a pair of brogans from them and have been very happy with them. Very affordable and comfortable. That´s kind of the price you might pay for a used pair, so advertising that you´re looking for a used pair is one option. I would love to have the brogans a bullet molds!Let us know what size you wear. I have a pair of Brogans that are "lightly" used, I'm guessing size 12.
I used to shoot in the North-South Skirmish Association and have the basic kit, uniform, canteen, leathers, etc. that are just sitting here and I never use them again.
I also have an 1853 3 band Enfield that I would be willing to part with, and perhaps an original Smith carbine. I have bullet molds and all the accessories for live fire that I would include.
Ok, Christian, slow down.I would love to have the brogans a bullet molds!
I believe now that I'm men's size 7 and also I'm not comfortable with sharing my ageOk, Christian, slow down.
You don't know what size shoes you wear? The Brogans I have I purchased back in the 1980's when I was in the N-SSA so maybe I've worn them 20 times, so they are in decent shape probably. They are probably size 12 and if I remember correctly, they have the horseshoe type attachments on the heals so the leather would wear longer. They were hand made for me by a guy out of Alabama that made all my leather gear (cartidge box, etc.) They are black but with the rough side of the leather is on the outside and they are what I call a uni-shoe, meaning the shoes are not right and left.
So, is something like that going to work for you?
By the way, how old are you?
And yes I could Probaly end up growing into them when I'm olderI believe now that I'm men's size 7 and also I'm not comfortable with sharing my age
