Normally we only see Devil's Den from the park road. That road is already part way up the slope to top of the boulders. Here are some dramatic views taken from the low ground in the Plum Run valley.

This last shot doesn't include the "Den," but does show Plum Run with Little Round Top as the backdrop.

Before taking those pictures, I walked the path to Devil's Den from the Texas Brigade's location on Seminary Ridge. Awful ground!

My GG Grandad was among Hood's Texans. He survived the war and wrote of his experience as an old man - said this place was the worst fighting he experienced during the war and that's no small feat.

Thanks for the pictures - really fantastic depiction!

I like that perspective looking uphill, especially in this case. When we're at a site taking photos, the tendency is to want to show the scene from the high ground. But I find that sometimes the most dramatic shots can be taken from below looking up to the height.

Exactly...and I wanted to give the perspective of the Confederates who were charging up from that direction.
