Does anyone know where and what the Delaney House was in Washington DC. An ancestor was mustered out there.

I've seen this question asked on genealogy message boards.
There is not much information, but some seem to think it was a private residence between
Georgetown and Tenallytown.

To be honest I don't remember the specific board, but it seems many were mustered out there.

Information posted in 2005 on 2 replies at H-Net Discussion Networks says the house is/was on the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral and may have served as its rectory. The cathedral construction, however, was not begun until 1907. In 1865, the house would have been a large private home in northwest DC. The First Division, IX Corps has headquartered near there at war's end and the house served as a muster-out point for several regiments including the 2nd MI Infantry.

I was curious too after your question on this house. I found same information that Dennis posted. Also saw many references to different soldiers being mustered out from this house.

You would think there would have been picture/photo of the Delaney House. Maybe someone will find one.
