Day Trips from Springfield MO this coming week

Missed a big adventure with @Buckeye Bill this weekend cuz I'm dog sitting this week while my dad is in rehab for his second broken leg in two months.... yep, playing the sympathy card...help!!!

The little guy has never been trained anyway so all I really need to do is feed him in the morning and then I'm free.

I have a couple in the works.....Chalk Bluff, Cabin Creek and west, maybe somewhere along the Missouri River. Is anyone in the area who wants to join me?

On Friday @Patrick H and I are working on wandering his neck of the woods... Lamine River, maybe Marshall. Who knows what else we may find...we both like the less well-known.

On Wednesday, unless something else comes up, I plan to head west to Cabin Creek and the battles in the Tulsa area. Maybe swing down to Talequah and Fort Gibson. I have one of the Indian Territory B&G mags and the Wilson Creek people made some copies of maps that are in the other one for me. That one may be solo but there is still time to join up....

Chuck, do I need a Redneck Pass for the boothills of Missouri? I have life-time pass for Mississippi and Arkansas, since I can show ancestry from both of those states.
I know they have a free zone corridor over to Branson but I wasn't sure if you needed a Hillbilly ID for that area of the state we will be traveling.

Well, it was a rainy and a muddy trip. I learned a lot about the terrain of the ridge that formed the Chalk Blufss squeezed between the rugged boot hills to the West and the muddy Mississippi flat lands to the East. The St. Francis River reminded me of the Tallahatchie River that passed by my boyhood home----except a little shallower.
I hope to visit Pea Ridge later this month. Then some day I will take in more of the battles of Southern Missouri.

The trip wasn't a complete waste. I got a photo of the Eclipse.

Missouri has a lot of Civil War sites to see, but sometimes it does take a lot of digging, and I mean that The Central and North Central area of the state has many sites of small actions involving guerrillas and garrison troops or larger units. It has a lot to offer including Huntsville, Bloody Bill's home area and Centralia. You should give it a go sometime.

Thanks for joining me Steve!! It does take some digging but hopefully you got a taste for the Trans-Mississippi and all the significant spots that are close to you.... Pilot Knob, Cape Girardeau, Cairo, Belmont, New Madrid. One place I have never tried to get close to is Island 10..... know anyone with a boat?

I had a good drive home.... Pitman's Ferry, Pocahantas, Mountain Home, Yellville. I also missed a couple spots I was looking for so I still need to go back !!!

Indian Territory didn't happen as my dad got released from the Rehab that day. It was after only five days vs ten the first time... he must have learned all the right things to say and do.

He's doing well and today I'm headed to join @Patrick H and @Booner in Boonville for some adventuring up there!

Had a great day with these two great guys! Boonville, Rocheport, Fayette, Glasgow, Lamine River and multiple points in between......although I had been to most spots before, the history and lore that they provided made it ten times better!!
