I'm headed down to Sparta MO to spend a couple of weeks with my folks. Dad wants to do some ancestry stuff. Mom just wants to see her favorite son !!

I should have plenty of time for some day trips....maybe even an overnighter. Plus I can take a roundabout way back home to Michigan. Sorry but I've kind of lost track of the locals MO folks that I've met on the board over the last few years so this is a general call out to anyone interested.

Possibilities......

1. North to the Bushwacker Museum in Nevada, Island Mound and maybe Lone Jack depending on whether I get there on the way down.

2. West to Cabin Creek.....I've been in the vicinity a few times but I don't think I ever actually "found" it.

3. South to to Cane Hill AR

4. Farther south to the Little Rock/Camden areas....yep, that's an overnighter or my roundabout way home.

5. East to Cape Girardeau.... also most likely on the way home.

I can't say anything as to those particular sites, but I highly recommend Wilson's Creek NBP near Springfield; and just a little way across the state line, both Pea Ridge NMP NE of Fayetteville, Ark.; and Prairie Grove State Park to the W-SW.

Thanks !! Been to each of those a couple times. Will probably go to Wilson's Creek as I haven't been there in a few years and it is only 25 minutes away.

Check this thread out for a suggestion about 40 minutes south:

Yesterday I had a great morning seeing Boonville MO with @Patrick H !

C'mon you Ozarkians..... I don't bite.....he will (probably) vouch for me !!
I will vouch for Chuck. In my experience, he was a very nice, easy-going guy and I enjoyed spending a morning dragging him all around Boonville and north Cooper County.

Had a great day trip yesterday. Timed the aprox 3 hour (of driving) trip perfectly to hit the Lone Jack Museum two minutes before it opened at 10. Great little museum and a couple of nice folks operating it.

On the way back south I drove thru Pleasant Hill, Harisonville, Butler, Battle of Island Mound, Nevada, Montevallo, Stockton and Greenfield.

Met a great old guy named Eldon who gave me a tour of the Bushwacker Museum in Nevada. We have a mutual appreciation for and shared stories of Ed Bearss.
