I go to the Jackson Michigan CWRT. Our presentation on February 14 2018 will be about the 102nd US Colored Troop Regiment (1st Regiment of Michigan Colored Troops). This made me wonder how many CWRTs do presentations about USCTs.
February is Black History Month so our February meeting sounds like a good time to have this presentation. I have to wonder if other CWRTs will do the same. Has your CWRT had a USCT presentation?
We often hear how black Americans have little interest in the Civil War. Is it possible that the Civil War history community is partly to blame for this? For example how many CWRTs discuss topics that would be of special interest to blacks? How often are Civil War reenactments centered around actions that included USCT units? I do wonder if the ethnic make up of most Civil War Round Tables match the percentage of the local ethnic people in the area. If not, why?
