Something I want to do later is sew Wambaugh and White kits, including a fatigue blouse. I found this shirt while volunteering and I wonder if it could be cut out and used as lining when I do the kit.

Wambaugh's kits come with the lining already cut out if you want it. Unless you want to make a reproduction of the "unlined" fatigue blouses, which came without linings of any kind, he will omit lining.

Contact them for details.

For example, during the last several months of the war, Sherman's army received large numbers of the unlined blouses..

In the unlined blouses, the seam allowances are turned and "felled" flat, to prevent raveling, just like in a shirt:

Not an issue with the lined blouses, where the lining protects the seams...

The body lining of the lined blouses was generally of flannel or a light woolen (as described in regulations), and undyed cotton in the sleeves.

Article breakdown...

McKee, Sack Coat Article.. NJS

I bought a civilian sack coat that came unlined. I thought about using a shirt as a lining. I was afraid, though, that the shirt might be hard to fit correctly inside the coat. On top of that, my sewing skills are pretty pathetic! So I bought some simple linen fabric at Joanne's and had a tailor install it. She did a great job!

I've made quite a few uniforms in my time and I'm not sure how this will work out for you.
Will there be enough fabric in the shirt to do all the pieces? The arms especially, will be fuller in a CW jacket, than on a modern shirt. And the cuffs will need to be cut off. Will the arms be too short as a result?

Looks like there is a yoke at the shoulder too. That would normally not be present in lining a CW jacket? Normally you want the lining seams to coincide with all the seams on the jacket body, so it will not bubble and it will drape properly. (I typically stitched the lining on with the jacket inside out; so it would be a bit slack when turned right side out. That way it will not "pull" when moving around.)

Removing the breast patch pocket will leave a witness mark on the interior. You could disguise it by adding a pouch pocket in the same spot. But again, you will not have the fabric to do it.

IMHO, you might be better off picking up a few yards of gingham at a fabric store instead. You can trace off the wool pieces in your kit for the correct cut. I would be interested in seeing a pic of the finished item in any case.

Thanks for this well-thought-out comment! These are just the kinds of things I worried about when I thought of using a shirt as a liner. Although this could have been an exciting sewing adventure, I'm kind of glad I went the route you suggested, with the additional expedient of taking the job to a tailor!
