Here's a couple of Custer without the fancy neck wear.

With a Confederate prisoner on the Peninsula, summer, '62.

@7thWisconsin Except that I have more hair then he did, (but its all gray unfortunately), my daughter thinks I looked just like him.

And I was a goofy looking teenager too, I just never grew out of that like he did.

LOL - yeah, I don´t think I outgrew it either. There´s one photo of my wife and me in formal wear. She has a beautiful gown and I´m in my dress blues. Wow, we look like a cake topper. It´s been all downhill for me since then!
I suspect that Custer´s freckles got worse the more he was out in the sun. His face is clearly sun weathered in some of those wartime photos. Makes you wonder what he would have looked like at 40 or 50 doesn´t it?

Like Sherman I am wondering… Actually I read somewhere that Sherman's oldest daughter thought her father aged twenty years in three.

The Confederate prisoner was also, I believe, a classmate of his from West Point.

Not sure if he's the one but I believe Custer attended a Confederate buddy's wedding at around the time that photo was taken.
