Custer's Michigan Cavalry Brigade flags.

This is Custer's Michigan Cavalry Brigade today at a reenactment. It appears that the poor brigade has suffered severed battle losses. It bearly has enough troopers to even carry all its flags.

I saw them years ago at Greenfield Village. They may have had a few more members back then but not many more. Apparently Mosby is giving them trouble.
The best cavalry reenactment I've seen was by the 2nd US Cavalry at Gettysburg. They did a charge at the spectators at the end that was amazing. I think there was about 30 participants , perhaps 5 or 6 were women wearing fake facial hair. They certainly held their own handling horses and firearms.
 
Reenacting is an expensive hobby these days and that's just for the infantry. I could only imagine how much it would cost to equip a cavalry trooper and buy a horse and take care of him. It's no wonder the ranks of Custer's Brigade are somewhat thinned out.
