Went to the Monroe MI museum today. A couple of edged weapon owned by George Custer. Not sure he carried them or just got them

Care to tell us what we are seeing?

Can't really tell much about the saber from the photo - the details of the hilt are quite obscure. However I think it is unlikely Custer carried this sword since it appears to be much closer to the War of 1812 than the CW period. The blade appears to be a montmorency-style similar to that used on this War of 1812-era artillery officer saber (probably made by Pettibone):

I think Custer collected items and these were some of the things he picked up. There was also a Bowie Knife with guard in the case and I would doubt Custer would have carried that.
