Hey I'm from North Mississippi. I have a CS belt buckle that my dad said that he found in ground years ago. Just curious if someone could tell me if it's authentic. To me it looks like it is from other pictures and the prongs on the back.

Hi Cass,

Unfortunately it is a reproduction piece. The examples @uvcrelics gave are the correct formations. If you look most of them don't have lead in them, rather the hooks are tacked in place. The other appears to be a solid casting which is a rare piece. The hooks you refer to are seen on US buckles but there are distinct differences between real and reproduction hooks too. These are referred to as arrow hooks and would belong on a mid to late war US buckle. The face of your buckle also has no deterioration from sitting in the ground. If it did it would have oxidized and turned brown. I hope this helps just in case you have other pieces from your dad you'd like to examine.
