Corps Badge Opinions Please!

Greetings,

A number of very similarly manufactured types of different corps badges have been selling on an internet auction site, particularly by one seller. What are forum members' opinions of this example that is being offered for $425.00? In my opinion, it is a fake. Thanks for your opinions.

Its hard to tell from just photos but it has all the trappings (pin-back and engraving) of a B T Hayward made badge but in Stan Phillip's book on Corp badges it is not listed as one of the variants. These were also produced for post war GAR. IMHO even if CW the price is a little high.

I agree with you, a very large collector of Corps badges once told me that you can easily tell a fake by the pin back, usually the length of the pin does not exceed the circumference or the width/length of the badge. The one pictured has an incredibly long pin, I'm sure there are exceptions, but rare.

If I cannot id a piece from any reference book I would stay away. Take a chance on a $15 bullet I would buy it. A few hundred dollars, no way. I've learned my lesson a few times the hard way. Like ucvrelics said its not in Phillips book which is the #1 reference on the subject I would be cautious.

If you read the advert, it references a "Memorial Medallion of our late President", so even the Hayward badge is post war.
