I own, what I believe, may be Captain E.W. Capps of the 15th VA cavalry personal sidearm. Can anyone assist me in my pursuit of authenticating this weapon. Thanking in advance.

Warmest Regards,

Steve

We need to see ALL the markings on this pistol, Lock plate, Barrel markings and any and all other markings that would ID the maker of this piece, then we can tackle the stamping of the name.

Yes, will need to validate the pistol first and then the name, please provide more pictures, it was certainly not unheard of for soldiers to arm themselves anyway they could early in the war.

I regret not purchasing a confederate officer's "horse pistol" when available at auction, I purchased his M1860 Colt and Star Cav Saber, but at the time had no interest in the associated single shot muzzle loading M1842 Aston pistol. This was many years ago and I have since learned that keeping the grouping together is of utmost importance. Funds were tight and the reserve was higher than I though it worth, but I should have pulled the trigger none-the-less. The pistol had the officers name and CSA, which immediately had me on alert, but a local museum ended up with it, so it wasn't all bad.
