The Confederate Monument, located on the square in Oxford, is dedicated to the memory and service of the men from Lafayette County who served in the various companies and regiments of the Confederacy. There were 2 regiments which fought at Shiloh that had companies from
Lafayette County.
The 9th Mississippi, with company C, the Lafayette Guards and the 22nd Mississippi with company H, the Lafayette Farmers. Both regiments were heavily involved in the battle with severe losses.
