The Russian or Slavic cross suggests this is from an organization affiliated with the Eastern Orthodox Church. In form, it looks very similar to late 19th century caps worn by fire and police departments.

There are other, much more knowledgeable folks here on uniforms than I am, so I'm sure there will be other guidance on this.

Hello ZAP12762.
Welcome to the forums.

You have an interesting cap !

I agree with Andy & John that this cap appears to be part of a post war fraternal/religious order uniform of some type.

Hopefully someone can provide more information.

This is of a 1895 pattern cap. Fraternal orders commonly would copy whatever military style was at hand or popular at the time..... would fall into the 1895-1910ish era

This one is a bit of an oddity. It has a Greek Rite - Catholic cross insignia in the front within the wreath... sometimes also referred to as the Eastern Rite or Eastern Orthodox... this sect was slightly different from the Greek Orthodox Church... However Im not aware of any fraternity group within that church bearing a "SOJ" abbreviation.... yet it could also be an abbreviation of a particular rank or role position within the group just as well...
