Civil War Ghosts

I have experienced things that defy the laws of physics; maybe there's a rational explanation; maybe science will discover one, in the future. I keep an open mind about such things.

I visited the home of the exorcists that were at the Amityville Horror over 40 years ago. Their basement display of things they collected from their exorcisms was hokey. They told us about a "haunted" town along the Appalachian Trail that was supposedly so scary that the locals, animal, and even birds avoided the area. .... So naturally as college students, three of us visited that "abandoned" spot. The boy-scouts and others were hiking and camping there, there were lots of birds and wildlife, and the townsfolk that we talked to never heard of any problems. Big disappointment.

I've never seen any supernatural phenomenon in Gettysburg, and neither has any of the locals that I have talked to.

Well met then fellow Queens person. I lived most of my childhood in Albertson, Mineola then later Huntington Station on Long Island. The orb photo is interesting. I personally have not seen one first-hand, only in TV ghost hunter type shows. I've always been suspect of the orb thing.

What I have seen firsthand is a floating filament type thing. Almost like the smoke from a cigarette that has just been lit. Often it is just out of the corner of my eye. When I look at it directly, it isn't there. Possibly just neural discharge in my vision and not paranormal, but the phenomena is very bright and has happened often.

Something just went wrong when trying to post a reply. Trying again. I have never seen an orb. What I have seen is a floating filament thing, bright, about 12 inches high, moving and intertwining slowly... almost like the smoke coming from a cigarette that has just been lit. I've seen this a number of times. When I Iookat it directly, it isn't there. This is most likely some kind of neural discharge in my vision, but I do not discount that it could be paranormal.

There are people existing in an in-between world, all of them that had obsessive-compulsive disorders while alive in body. There's a lot of them. Only a few have the energy necessary to show themselves, move things, affect the living. The ones that do often appear as solid black. I mean solid black. Others with less energy appear as a misty darkness. Others as human-looking, sometimes full body, sometimes without legs.

These lost souls often only have enough energy to interact with humans in a very basic way. One way is using their fingers to scratch a living person. Because the inner core of their brain is all they can manage it often results in three parallel lines of scratch on the living person's skin. The angry ones do that. In fact, it is because they have only three fingers and a rudimentary thumb. It's all they have. It is a result of only being able to access the reptilian core of their consciousness. They don't have the energy to access anything more. If someone were able to convince them that they are more whole, more human, they would immediately pass over to the Summerland.

Souls who died suddenly and who just were not able to understand what happened, also ones who had big problems with trying to get something emotional done but were unable to in life are the ones still hanging around. I said above "there are a lot of them". Yes, that's true but most are just what I'd call "fragments" of past lives. Not complete souls. And, certainly, so-called "ghosts" who manifest in a clear way are rare, indeed. Probably less than 1% of all people who have died. And, it's not something to be afraid of. It's just something that is.

For those that are interested, there is away to have messages and psychic impressions from those who have passed over. The way to do it is to practice meditation. The easiest method is to just sit or lay down and feel what you are, the thing you were born with. You will have no thinking while doing this, only a feeling of You.

Another way is to start seeing the number One. Concentrate on it. Proceed to number two. Go up to ten. It will take a few months to get the hang of it. Both methods above in conjunction are life-changing

This is an interesting thread. I haven't experienced anything paranormal or whatever myself but am open minded on the matter.

I toured some of the WWI battlefields in France in 2008. The guide was all a very matter-of-fact and straight forward sort of guy (not the best of guides but that's another story). But I asked him if he would come out and spend some hours say about 2:00am in the Somme battlefields. And the question shook him up a bit. Just no way would he even consider it.

I have watched the Civil War ghosts doco that's on youtube that was shot at Gettysburg if I recall correctly. I dismissed it at first as kind of crazy, but then remembered I have experienced weird things at night at a former penal colony here in Australia. So maybe its not so crazy after all.

Former prisons especially. Ned Kelly ghost in Melbourne Prison.

That is interesting because once when I was a teen I was sitting at my desk doing homework with my back to the door. My mother came in and instantly scolded me what I was thinking to light a cigarette in my room! I had not. She came to check and then told me she has seen a puff of smoke over my head when entering the room. That, besides of some pretty strange dreams and a certain strange feeling at Gettysburg is the only possibly paranormal event in my own life. And I know the feeling too, that something moves just out of your view and when you turn your head there is nothing. But I also think that might be something coming from a kind of visual defect.

@ Anna Elizabeth: My great grandmother, Glennie Pine, lived in the last one-family home on Ocean Avenue. I remember her. She still wore floor-length Victorian style dress, black. This was in the late 1950s when I was just a little spark. She was a reserved ultra-conservative type. She didn't talk much. I think the black garb she always wore had to do with mourning. Her husband passed away at a young age. She never re-married. She was in her nineties when I saw her. Small woman, thin. The house she lived in was right out of the 1800s... dark, full of knick-knacks, heavy draperies around the tall windows, ornate wallpaper. I think she was stuck in the past. She was a Victorian era antique. I looked up the Ocean Avenue address on Google Streetview. There's a big apartment building there now. I will check out Greenwood Cemetery about my cousin, CC Van Aken. Maybe they have records of gravesites from the 1800s. Thanks for that info.

Glennie Pine moved down to Brooklyn from somewhere around New Paltz when she was younger, after her husband passed away. She ran a small hotel up there on the Hudson. It still exists. I would imagine she sold the business and bought the Brooklyn house and moved down there. She worked for a company in NYC for many years.

At Spring Hill I took a picture of a field that was fought on....I was facing the sun but an orb/sun reflection was on a pic I took. If you are skeptical it's a reflection...if you believe it's a spirit orb. I didn't feel any vibes so I don't know if it is or isn't.

At Franklin walking into the Confederate cemetery I literally stopped with a very strange feeling. I figured it was just the emotions of having gone thru the home there that was used as a hospital during and after the fighting and decided to man up and walk thru the cemetery.

Yeah, possible paranormal occurrence. Who knows ? I personally have a difficult time in hospitals, or places that used to be hospitals. I just want to leave. I just get a feeling of turmoil and pain. I drove past some of the big battlefields of the Civil War. I could not bring myself to visit them. The equivalent would be like slowing down to see a bad highway accident. I just couldn't do it. Because I have focused on Civil War scenarios in my younger years, I often get snippet visions of battle but mostly camp life from that time. I can tell you (presuming these visions are based on reality), it was just a lot of smoke, utter chaos, bullets flying everywhere, body parts, death, lice, bad booze, whole bunches of men with very bad colds and coughing a lot, also men who have lost their principles who are to be avoided, very salty food, horrifying all of it. And, godawful heat. People from the north anyway spoke with a little a little different accent than today. For example, "heat" was not pronounced with a soft "t", it was hard "t".

I used to have some kind of romantic idea about those times. Not anymore. We have it way, way better these days. No comparison, mainly because of the amount of physical work involved with living in the 1860s compared to now, also the amount of disease and economic hardship.

No doubt, however, the mostly rural life of the 1800s made strong women, strong men. I caught the tail end of that era that ended around 1960. Playing out in the woods. Not many kids get to experience that these days. Even if there is woodland around the house, parents are afraid of letting the kids loose. I've seen this in the more urban areas of Canada, northeast America, also Britain.

I knew an old man many years ago that had an interesting ghost story. Happened back in the 1920's when he was a teenager. Back then there were few cars back in the country so a lot of people rode a wagon, horse, or just walked. well, he had a sweetheart that he liked to visit a few miles from his home and he had to walk there to visit.

So one evening he went visiting and stayed late. Started home before midnight, walking down the old dirt roads in the moon light. It was getting late and he sure wanted to get home to his bed. He knew of a short cut which was down a lonely road. There was only one old house one it and it was said to be haunted. The old road was grown up with grass and bushes around as it wasn't used hardly at all.

He screwed up all the courage a teenage boy could and headed down the short cut. As he got closer to the old house the chills ran up his spine and the hair on the back of his neck stood on end. As he walked past at a fast pace he wouldn't even look at the old house, fearing something might look back at him.

As he passed the house, a voice came to him. Said "Nice little walk we're having'. he liked to have jumped six foot in the air! Looking all around, he couldn't see anyone!! Fear took over and he lit out like greased lightning straight for home!! He jumped an old barbed wire fence, ran across a field, across another fence, and ran until he came to a creek. Out of breath, and tired he sat down on a stump to catch his breath for a minute. Dirrectly that same voice said to him "Nice little run we've had'. He jumped up and said back ' yeah, but it's nothing like the one we're fixing to have!!'
