SIM Game Civil War Computer games

These days there are many great choices. What interests you most: the whole war? an individual campaign or battle? first-person shooter (I think War of Rights has leapt ahead on this one)?

Do please stop by Forums>The Knapsack...>The Long Dusty Road> The Civil War in Games & Miniatures and check out the various discussions there!

I quite liked Ultimate General: Civil War.

But if you can wait a little longer - Grand Tactician: The Civil War is in the works and shows great promise. And it should be published soon.

I just got that game and I love it. I use to play the Gettysburg one. What is the difference between Grand Tactician and UG?

use to be addicted to this game. I wish they would reintroduce it.

Same with Grant, Lee, Sherman: Civil War Generals 2 that was the best game ever and with the reenactment footage in it.
The PC version of Gods and Generals game was just not that good specially for first person game.

Which is the best computer games right now for the computer? I am looking to get one for my laptop.
I've played Ultimate General Civil War more times than I can count (exaggeration of course, I could check my steam page).
John Tiller's Campaigns, if you pick the right ones and are willing to spend the money, can be an enjoyable experience (recommend Shenandoah as they actually have proper ai for most of the scenarios unlike others I own).
Civil War 2 by Ageod is an old classic, but part of me thinks Im biased because Its the first pc game I ever bought.
I am excited for Grand Tactitian, looks like its gonna give UG a run for its money.

If you can get it working, (I've been unable to get it to work on Steam for years) I highly recommend Take Command: Second Manassas. Back during its heyday, we had a very lively community and it's got some incredible mods for it. A Revolutionary War mod, a Napoleonic War mod and tons of fan made battles and OOBs (you can even make your own).

I'm looking at John Tiller myself while waiting for Grand Tactician.
I have Forge of Freedom which is fun but... quirky. Not the most intuitive system for issuing commands. And that 'higher' levels of AI are simply the computer giving its side relative bonuses for troop quality or economic production seems kinda lame.

For a fast game, good AI (at the time of publication) and good modeling research, I always liked Strategic Studies Group (Australian company) Decisive Battles of the Civil War series. The software is "abandonware" now. The Commodore Amiga and Mac versions were the best graphically, although they were also made for the older Apple, Commodore 64 and IBM machines. Yeah, yeah...I've just dated myself again. LOL
