And while obviously not a true period relic, it might be considered a "relic based on a relic" in its own right, since I think these date back to the early 1970's. Not sure what the "Deep Woods" scent would be like after several decades though, so fellas use with caution! (Deep Woods reminds me of insect repellant...)

(If you are really interested in getting one of these... search ebay.)

Does anyone else have a Civil War related eau de toilette to share...?

Hey, I used to use Deep Woods! But it was back in the 70s. And I was a teenager.
That pipe looks to be inspired by one in Lords Collectors Encyclopedia, which was in all the bookstores in the early 70s, too. The language of the blurb on the box is reminiscent of the description he gives, too.
Well I guess the Deep Woods must have been A-Ok if acceptable to teenagers in the glorious 1970's...!

Would be awesome if someone could find a pic of the original pipe that this was modeled after...

Well, I was a nerdy teenager whose favorite color was blue because Union soldiers wore blue, so I'm not qualified to speak for the coolness factor...
I suspect this bottle was inspired by these two pipes. The first is from Lord's volume 1, under relics. It currently resides in the Chemung County Historical Society Museum in Elmira NY because it has a connection to the POW camp. This is the description that includes the language about being handmade. The second is from Volume 2, and is clearly a pipe of much higher quality. Both pipes show a bearded soldier with a kepi/forage cap (so they may both be based in another original period image.)

Thank you very much indeed for posting those pics... it does look like they could have been used as the model, especially the second one.

My wife prefers Bay Rum, and I found this bottle of stuff called Florida Water Cologne, made by Murry & Lanman. The company beeen in business since 1808. And it is clearly marked "For External Use Only". It was at a sutlers at a main stream event . Picked it up cost me some big bucks 8 I think. Not bad smelling.

Avon Deep Woods had the claim to fame that it worked as a mosquito repellent, too. I just noticed that the box illustration of the bottle shows a square bulldog type pipestem, like the picture of the second pipe. It doesn't seem to have translated to the bottle itself.
