I know that Chocolate Gravy was bought up in a post, so thought I would look into it.

Chocolate Gravy is made from fat, flour, cocoa powder and a small amount of sugar. According to legend it was from Spanish Louisiana who traded with Tennessee. It was introduced as Mexican-Style breakfast chocolate to the Appalachian area of Tennessee. They called it Chocolate Gravy. Other legend was it was from the mixed Appalachian Malgeneons from the 16th and 17th century Spanish Colonies.

It is basically a southern dish. It was a regular item at Elvis Presley's Graceland.

Southern-Style Chocolate Gravy

1/4 cup cocoa
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups milk
1 tablespoon butter, softened
2 teaspoons vanilla

Whisk the cocoa, flour and sugar together in a bowl until there are no limps. Pour the milk into the mixture and whisk until well incorporated. Transfer the mixture to a saucepan, and cook over medium heat, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and stir butter into the mixture. Serve immediately.
