CHAVASSE & Co bayonet

I have recently acquired from a friend a 1853 Enfield pattern socket bayonet,has any one else come across one marked like this ?
this is the information I found at the museum of Lancashire it says..... only in 1861 Chavasse produced the 1853 enfield socket bayonet under contract, no British government markings or stampings to link with British government indicating that all the bayonets were made for import to America for American civil war confederate states.The company was used because of its manufacturing abilities and its connections and successes in sales in the foreign market
Markings on bayonet rear edge of the socket a double punch mark and seven cut notches one diagonal , The mark of "CHAVASSE & Co". Total manufactured 11,173 socket bayonets
it also says..the1853 Enfield pattern rifles early batch sent to American confederate states did not have any British government stamps or markings only the barrel proof stamps

ps...the company was based at the crocodile works ,alma street,ashton newton,birmingham,england 1860 to 1869

Remember that the British Model 1853 rifle-musket was the "AK-47" of that era, meaning countries around the world used this model, and factories in Britain and other countries made them for whoever could pay for them. None of these sales to other countries had British government markings. Lack of British markings doesn't mean confederate, it just means not British government.

the bayonet was made only for a confederate contract with these specific markings from chevasse
I know the guns were supplied to the highest bidders worldwide without markings and could be bought as single guns for private use..but its the bayonet I was really asking about if anyone else had got one

The firm went bankrupt right after the Civil War and closed shop.
Nice addition. I've been looking for these.

In 1862 after a change in government policy the contract was awarded to Enfield until the end of 1863,which they produced 157,021 socket bayonets all stamped with British government markings ,the loss of this contract put Chavasse & co in financial difficulties ..the company was bought out by Ralph Martindale & co...went on to produce bayonets through 1914 1918 and then started to produce pressing tools
