Chamberlins Wounds

So since the would technically caused his death, couldn't someone make the argument that his service record should be changed to "Mortally Wounded at Petersburg"?

Now that's ridiculous of course...a 50-year gap is way too long to be considered mortally wounded. You could have been born in 1866 with Chamberlain in the room, then died in your late 40s and Chamberlain could have attended your funeral. All the while with his "mortal" wound.

But how long is "too long" then? Is there some sort of official statute of limitations on that?

Pretty amazing story, but Chamberlin was an amazing man. He exemplified the Citizen Soldier that has been The Pride of the Nation since its inception. No man who survived that War gave more than JLC did. In a way, its a fitting death for such a man. To live with a Fatal wound for fifty years and STILL give the World the Things he gave. ...well...he was one tough, and smart somebody. RIP, GENERAL Chamberlin. If a man EVER earned it, you did.
