Were CDVs displayed in a photograph case like you see tintypes and other images in? Or were they usually placed inside an album like photographs of the 20th century?

If placed in a case of some sort, is there a source/vendor/etc. who sells period cases to be used to display a single CDV?

As was previously mentioned, most carte de visites were kept in albums, but you will occasionally find a few that were trimmed down to fit inside hard union cases or even the leatherette cases normally used for hard images (daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, ivorytypes, etc.). Some were also kept in paper sleeves, but those are rarely seen.

There were CDV frames and cases, but they are very rare. I have only seen a couple in my years of collecting. The CDV was made of paper and massed produced so not really necessary to take such care with a fancy case or frame. People handed them out.
