Hello, could someone help me with identifying this cap? Is it US Civil war or rather a French 1870 period cap?

It looks like the buttons were replaced over time.

Thanks a lot!

Very interesting. I wish I could help ID your cap, but I can't. But I can help welcome you!

Welcome From The Heart Of Dixie. Nice kepi. Its hard to tell from just photos and not being able to closely look at the fabric. With the 2 bands of braid its for a Captain. I would say its not CS. It has round zouave buttons aka ball buttons. What are the back-marks on the buttons. This is not a definitive answer as they could have been changed.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome wishes!

One button is marked with Paris, the other has no markings, but it seems to me that the buttons have been added later on. I have added some more detail pictures. Hopefully this can be of any help.

Interesting cap. These braided and quartered caps are very attractive. I hope we have a cap expert who can give us an expert opionion.

Thanks for adding some more photos. Your hat is a French Chasseurs kepi. This style was used by both North & South and of course the French. Some of these were also imported by the South. With the Paris back-mark on the button I'm going that it is in fact a French Kepi.
