Can I have some help with this problem

Someone will be along shortly with some answers and suggestions. In the meantime, welcome...and try going through the list of threads on this forum or using the search function at top right on the page.....we have lots of good info stored up from past inquiries along the same line. Heck, someone will probably try to recruit you for an upcoming event! :) Good luck!

I'm giggling like a fiend when I see my pic in another members avatar...

What are you looking to do? Inf, Arty or Cav, do you want to US, CS or both. Do you want to go Hardcore, Progressive or Mainstream? There are some rather important questions you want to answer. I'm not familiar with any units in the Columbia area anymore but know of some excellent people down Savannah way.

I'm 17.
I live more specificly in Bythewood SC. I visit many reenactments maily Aiken which I am going too on the 22nd of Feb.
I have more of a preference towards the Confederacy and artillery since I was in a reenactment before. I prefer to be a powder monkey since my acestor who was 31 years of age was in the 1st US artillery in the Civil War. (I do not know much about him though) He served as a powdermonkey after the original boy was killed in action. I would like to relive his part but as a Confederate soldier. An infantryman would help too. I have some slack as in $80 to spend. (Money comes hard when working at Zaxbys)
I would as well like too know what type of cloting would be needed for my IMPRESSION. I have a Kepi, Shell jacket, Canteen, and Haversack at my disposal. What else sould I use. ( I also have plaid brown tattered pants that I usually go in. ) If you need more information than that tell me because I am ready willing and able to tell more.

What about a 47 yea rold man here in San Antonio, TX who would like to know if there are any reenactor groups here in San Antonio? Interested in the infantry and Hood's Texas Brigade. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

Whatever you do, don't buy any gear until you've decided on a unit and have the chance to talk to them about what you need. Also, if you're doing artillery, stay away from uniforms that look like the red trim monster vomited on them.

And welcome to the board! People in this hobby are generally happy to help new folks get started right.

Do not contact the 17th SC( They are confed) as shown . Why you ask? Well for a few reasons. 1-They are not located in S.C. 2- They are located in Michigan, and Indiana. 3- That web site is old, and hasn't been updated in I think 2- 3 years.
How do I know all this? I am 1st Sarg. of the unit, we are located in Michigan and Indiana. And the person in charge of the website won't give the password up for updateing to the current group( there are a few of us old members still around and belong to it), since they quit reenacting. So unless you want to make a trip up to Michigan for events(can get expensive) we are not the group you want, but your more than welcome to come join us at events around the country.

So I just wanted to thank you all for your help. I was able to go to the 150th aniversary of the battle of Aiken.
The battle was great ( BTW-The Yankee's won ). I met up with a man named Mountain Man. He was a sharpshooter and he hooked me up with a man named David. ( General Jackson ) I walked over to the artilery camp with the Milton Light Artillery who helped me out alot. I gave them my contact information. I also got an offer as a powdermonkey because all other slots were filled. I took the offer. The downside is I still live with my mom and I have a permit. My mom won't let me go down there because she has a paper due for the GRE.
I appreciate all your help in making this possible. Thank you.
