My father in law found this sword hidden in an old sea chest. One with a lid on which only half of the top opened up.
The blade is curved and has a blood channel. The cross guard looks like it once was a d guard type handle.
It also has a sheath made of wood, bound with metal bands.

Wow. I cant help you identify it at all, but I do think it is a nice find and a cool old piece. Can you tell if the scabbard is mahogany or walnut? And is that metal band on the scabbard made of iron or brass?

It is hard to date as I have seen knife/sword makers using a tanks engine block to hammer out blades post Viet Nam. Depending on how they are cared for you can't tell if it was made in 1980 or 1880. I have a Hmong "Bowie" that the only thing that dates it is that the woodes sheath is held together with strips from a plasma bottle.
