Blockade Runner 1861 Emergency Blanket

Hallo Kameradin,

I was looking at a 1861 Emergency Blanket from the Blockade Runner. I am fond of the Blockade Runner but have never bought any of there blankets. Does anyone have another suggestion or has a BR Emergency blanket?

My suggestion would be S and S, or NJ Sekela. Not trying to dis your favored merchant, but Blockade Runner's wares are pretty typical mainsteam gear. The blanket in question is not 100% wool either. Woolrich products contain a fairly high synthetic count; in the case of the blanket 15 to 20% nylon. It is relatively inexpensive, but will not retain resale value like a high-end blanket, and the extra synthetic material will very likely increase the possibility of fire related damage (if you are sleeping next to a fire).
Sekela offers his blankets for $130, S&S and County Cloth also have quality reproductions if you can find them in stock. They will also go for the $130-$150 range. On the used market they generally command $100 or so. If you are doing a CS impression I would encourage you to check out Chris Utley at South Union Mills. He has a very nice selection of civilian blankets and coverlets.

Third Option: Try to obtain one of the older authentic reproductions such as the National Historical Society blanket (Union) by Fred Gaede and Bryce Workman or the Auggie Weissert blanket (Confederate).
