JEB Stuart really disliked Beverly Robinson. Robinson performed poorly at Brandy Station and during the first half of the Gettysburg Campaign so Stuart would have good reason at that time to dislike him. However, Stuart's disdain apparently predates 1863.

One theory is the resentment was personal not professional. Robertson was supposedly engaged to Flora Cooke, but they never married. Flora subsequently married Stuart.

Does the engagement story hold up? Was Stuart jealous in some way or felt Robertson had mistreated Flora? Or was there some other cause?

For that matter, did Robertson dislike Stuart as well or was it a one-sided feud?
