Looks 19th century. Might not be Civil War but can anyone identify this pin?

Not certain what it stands for but it looks like collar insignia which puts it post war. The type of letters used during the war would have serifs. Squared letters are more closely related to turn of the century and beyond

Whenever I see something old with sloppy welds/solder, I'm hopeful it's CW period. Great info, Salterr. Thanks.
