Bayonet help

Thanks for add! I have this M1855 bayonet and was wondering if the F below the US denotes where it was made or the inspector. Also the 55 stamped above the US. Help please.

Toddeyl - The "F" is an Inspector's mark. There is no way to determine the actual manufacturer of the bayonet by that mark that I know of. The bold "55" overstamp is most likely a post-war unit designation.

55 is probably a rack #. Also probably fits a 61 springfield.

If it fits a M-1861, it will also fit a M-1863, M-1864, 1st & 2nd Allin conversions, and the M-1868 & M-1870 Trapdoor Rifles!
