Bayonet found out West

Since I don't mind having old rusted, pointy things lying around the house, a buddy gave me this bayonet that his sister recently recovered out West while exploring around a deserted ghost town! It's possibly Civil War or post Civil war vintage, since the army converted many muzzleloading Springfield rifle/muskets to cartridge breech loaders after the war. There was an Army outpost near the site that was abandoned in 1869, so I'm thinking it's the real deal?
