Just showing off my Dad's stash of ACW surplus ammo boxes that were used by Francis Bannerman to store miscellaneous items at the castle and the NYC store. He got these over the years from different guys who worked for Bannerman and his family. Eventually I'll inherit these and add them to my own personal collection. Thought you guys would appreciate me sharing this. I know two of them are a Tredegar and Selma boxes/crates.

You should photograph these in detail. These could easily form part of a book on ammo and equipment crates. There are probably a bunch of these sitting unrecognized in barns and basements across the country. Even pieces of them with parts of the labels stamped on them might have been repurposed and are now proping up furniture or doing some other duty. This type of relic rarely gets the attention it deserves before it's almost completely disappeared.

It's funny you should mention that. There is a guy not too far from where my dad lives in NJ that does have a whole barn full of them and other stuff. Problem is that it's a gigantic mess and he doesn't like people rummaging around in there. He's got hundreds of tarred ACW backpacks just in piles. Basically need a heat gun to unstick them. The guy could easily be on the show American Pickers

Your father is sitting on a gold mine and with this post you have collectors everywhere salivating over them.
I knew you would appreciate these Bob, especially the artillery chest with the original rope handles. Honestly if I can convince that old farmer to sell me a few, I will gladly find you one or two nice crates. The guy doesn't ask that much for them, maybe a 100 dollars per box/crate. It's just the matter of if he's in the mood to sell things that day

$100 bucks a crate is practically giving them away.

Maybe we should start a go fund me page to buy them all. We could probably allow him to set up a nice nest egg for his older age and we could save history, like the Battlefield Trust, but on a smaller scale.
