While I also have questioned a couple of details about the sword, I can't say the same about the scabbard. Am I correct in believing that the presence of a seamed joint running the length of the scabbard is consistent with Civil War production methods? The seam is visible inside the scabbard. I have a repro of a different sword and there is no seam present in that scabbard, which is what I would expect as tubular steel is used now instead of a piece of flat steel during the CW period. At least that is what I thought. The scabbard has a throat spring held in place by one screw. The rings are correct size, also showing solder joints as they should. The bands are very finely engraved and even have
background stippling. The drag is similar to what I have seen on other Ames scabbards.
