Here is another recipe from William C. Davis's book, "A Taste of War".
Andersonville Roast Swallow
"If inclined to eat any very small bird, scald and pluck the bird first; then remove the head and feet and clean the interior cavity. Place a few slices of onion inside the cavity, and then wrap one or two strips of bacon around the carcass and roast on a toasting fork over an open fire until done."
