African Pioneers.

I have never heard of this before but they were engineers and bridge builders for the Confederate army specifically 'Stonewall Jackson' and the Battle of Port Republic. These Black Confederates used wagons to build a bridge over the South River so Jackson could move his army. They stacked wagons side by side and laid boards across the wagons.

Does anyone have any information concerning the Pioneers?
