Sunday, November 27th started Advent this year in the Christian Calendar. It runs thru December 24th. This was and is a time for the preparation of the birth of Christ. Many foods are enjoyed during this period. They include Cookies, Fruitcake, Drinks, and St. Lucia (Lucy) Treats. See: http://www.holytrinitygerman.org/adventfoods.html
There are also many customs celebrated during Advent. These include the Advent Wreath, the Advent Calendar, Barbara Branches, Lucy Lights, Saint Nicholas, Santa Claus and the Angels, the Crèche. the Octave Before Christmas and/or the Golden Nights, and the Christmas Tree.
